The Coalition and American Hospital Association, AdventHealth, Atalan, and Providence’s Well Being Trust collaborate on practical framework for healthcare initiative evaluation
Healthcare organizations are launching more initiatives than ever to address burnout, retention, staffing strain, workflow inefficiencies, digital transformation, and operational pressures.
But despite significant investment and effort, many leaders are still left asking a fundamental question:
Is this initiative actually helping?
To help healthcare organizations answer that question more effectively, the Coalition for Physician & APP Well-Being – a non-profit entity comprised of national healthcare organizations dedicated to fostering the well-being of healthcare teams – has launched a new resource:
The framework was developed by the Coalition’s Research and Development Committee, including representatives from the American Hospital Association, AdventHealth, Providence’s Well Being Trust, and Atalan.
The guide is designed to help healthcare leaders move beyond anecdotal feedback and toward more structured, data-informed, and decision-oriented evaluation approaches.
As healthcare organizations increasingly invest in AI, predictive analytics, workforce intelligence, and digital transformation initiatives, the ability to evaluate what is actually creating value — and for whom — has become even more important.
Inside, organizations will find practical guidance for:
Determining what kind of evidence is needed
Understanding what available data can realistically show
Evaluating initiatives in real-world operational settings
Navigating challenges related to data access, bandwidth, and stakeholder alignment
Making more informed decisions about whether to continue, refine, scale, target, or discontinue initiatives
The resource also includes real-world examples from leaders across workforce well-being, engagement, mentorship, leadership development, and operational improvement initiatives.
Whether your organization is evaluating a retention initiative, a well-being program, a workflow change, a digital tool, an AI-enabled solution, or an operational pilot, the guide is intended to provide a more practical framework for initiative evaluation and decision-making.
The conversation doesn't stop with the guide. At the Joy & Wholeness Summit, on July 22nd, Atalan CEO Tiffany Chan, MA will join Arpan Waghray, MD, CEO of Providence's Well Being Trust, and Elisa Arespacochaga, MBA, Group Vice President of Clinical Affairs and Workforce at the American Hospital Association, to present “Stop Guessing: A Practical Framework for Evaluating Healthcare Initiatives.”

We hope these resources are valuable to your organization and teams.
