National Physician Suicide Awareness Day

September 17

The Coalition for Physician & APP Well-Being honors National Physician Suicide Awareness (NPSA) Day, a system-wide effort to shift attention to the tangible consequences of burnout, depression, moral injury, and suicidal ideation in our clinical caregivers. These things are not meant to be dealt with alone, nor should our response to them be when it is too late to make meaningful change in the well-being of our physicians and APPs lives.

As an #NPSADay Supporting Organization, the Coalition is honored to take action to prevent physician and APP suicide by sharing materials that improve well-being and foster wholeness, including suicide prevention resources, tips for starting important conversations about mental health, a crisis management plan, and more.

#NPSADay is a reminder and call to action. It’s a time to talk – and to act – so our physicians' and APPs' struggles don’t become mental health emergencies. Prevention begins with learning the signs, starting the conversations, removing intrusive mental health questions and sharing the resources that can help those in distress seek mental health care. National Physician Suicide Awareness Day is an annual event that takes place on September 17, with a mission to break down the culture of silence around mental health of our healthcare professionals.
