We’re thrilled to present Spotlight on Joy, our new series celebrating individuals advancing joy, purpose, and well-being in healthcare. This month, we highlight Roy Reid, APR, CPRC—host of The Well-Being Connector podcast, trust expert, and a longtime collaborator with The Coalition. Roy’s work has become essential to our mission, as he inspires essential dialogues on clinician burnout, resilience, and the deeper purpose of care.
Roy’s journey with The Coalition started in 2016, when he returned to AdventHealth as Executive Director of Communications. During those years, he was working alongside key figures like Dr. Ted Hamilton and The Coalition's Executive Director, Deanna Santana, who were actively focusing on programs that emphasize mission and spiritual well-being. “Those early efforts have become integral parts of The Coalition’s message,” Roy recalls, reflecting his alignment with our mission to foster wholeness in medicine. Through The Well-Being Connector, Roy brings this mission to life, facilitating open, impactful conversations with healthcare leaders who share our vision for a collaborative, compassionate healthcare environment.
In July 2024, Roy took The Well-Being Connector to a new level with live recordings at the Joy & Wholeness Summit. These episodes, featuring candid interviews with thought leaders, give listeners behind-the-scenes access to perspectives on managing today’s healthcare challenges. “One of the most powerful aspects of The Coalition is its commitment to tackling burnout and other critical issues in healthcare,” Roy says. He emphasizes how the collaborative space created by The Coalition is vital for sparking meaningful change.
Roy’s dedication to trust-building extends beyond the podcast. His expertise is central to The Trust Transformation, co-authored with Dr. Omayra Mansfield, which explores a structured framework for cultivating, repairing, and restoring trust in relationships. The book has become a trusted guide for healthcare professionals seeking to strengthen their relationships and well-being. Roy’s personal journey—including surviving an acute aortic dissection in 2019—also deepened his insights into the essential balance between stress management and well-being. “That experience shifted my perspective on health and joy,” Roy reflects. “I’ve since transformed my lifestyle to prioritize sustainable wellness.”
This commitment to a balanced approach aligns closely with The Coalition’s goals. Roy envisions a healthcare environment grounded in wellness, rather than temporary fixes. “Healthcare should be a place of true healing,” he shares, advocating for a system that supports clinicians in training and resources to help them lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. This vision mirrors our work at The Coalition, which prioritizes a supportive, whole-person approach to healthcare.
We’re incredibly grateful for Roy’s enduring commitment and his joyful support of our mission. His contributions to The Well-Being Connector and his unwavering dedication inspire us all. Look out for our latest podcast episodes featuring discussions with Dr. Robert Rodgers, our new Coalition board chairman, and Dr. Michael Cacciatore, AdventHealth’s Chief Medical Officer.
