An example of how redesigning a physicians’ lounge can dramatically improve collegial culture. Enloe Medical Center expanded and upgraded a cramped, dark lounge into a vibrant, inviting space (even adding a chef for fresh meals) to encourage physicians to gather, relax and connect . The chief medical officer noted that after restoring a dynamic lounge, physicians began “sharing those small bits of their lives with colleagues” again – strengthening relationships and satisfaction at work . This story shows the tangible impact a well-designed, intentional lounge can have on physician collegiality and well-being.
