Some regions have independent support groups (often started by physician spouses). For instance, “Side By Side” is a national network of Bible study groups for wives of physicians, and online communities like “Physician Family” Facebook group or medical spouse forums are thriving . A hospital’s physician wellness committee could maintain a list of such groups and resources for various interests (social, religious, etc.) and actively refer new physician families to them. Connecting spouses to peers who understand the unique challenges – be it through an official hospital-sponsored spouses club or informal referrals – goes a long way in making significant others feel supported.
