RSL: Structured Feedback Program
A gold-standard example of a structured feedback program for addressing professionalism. Vanderbilt’s CORS allows staff to report unprofessional behavior via an electronic system; then trained peer messengers confidentially share that feedback with the physician involved . This approach provides accountability and coaching rather than punishment. It has been shown that over 90% of physicians never require a report, but those who do often self-correct after peer feedback . An organization implementing a similar system (even on a smaller scale) can demonstrate it “provides feedback and accountability on professionalism” in a structured, fair manner. Vanderbilt’s model also crucially recognizes positive change – if behavior improves, that physician is quietly commended and no further action is taken, reinforcing professional standards.
